Traffic calming

Some attempts to cure the social ills beget by car-centric design are less successful than others. The destruction of all automobiles having, with the benefit of hindsight, failed, we turn first to traffic calming. These techniques are often moderately successful, but still fairly automobile focused. Since the technology so lacking in evidence on September 1, 1974 has yet to leave the drawing board, maybe we can look to the proven, if initially fruity sounding, techniques of the kickass (and, unfortunately, dead) Hans Monderman, champion of the Woonerf and the retro semiotics of the shared space movement. Or, you know, caltrops. Whichever’s easiest.
