Lunatics make the best architects.

Witness: the world headquarters of Rudolf Steiner’s fruity phenomenological mystic’s league, the Anthroposophical Society. It’s like the Sagrada Familia mixed with a Goomba from Mario Brothers. Hey, and biodynamic viticulture makes for some good wine, too. Maybe there’s something to this Anthroposophy business! (In fact: no.)

… Blume says the fact that’s called the “Goetheanum” is one of the coolest/weirdest things about it, which I buy, but don’t really understand. Just because it uses Goethe’s name? I think the other three readers of this blog should make her give a lengthy disquisition on the topic in comments. It also makes me wonder whether Steiner-ites have anything to do with the Goethe Institute. Signs point to not really, but maybe.

You forgot its name, which is one of the coolest/weirdest parts about it.

I think Bellow had his protagonist in Humboldt’s Gift go on about Steiner. I suspect Bellow actually bought some of his junk (so to speak.)
