Traffic flow nerdery pedal to the metal, baby!

Oh I just knew this had to exist. Thanks to this NYT article on merging (which, erroneously, assigns moral values to the various strategies — one of the ways in which the Boston style of driving (everybody’s an asshole, trying to maximize their own rate) often produces better outcomes than the California style (roughly, “I’m not an asshole, but you certainly are.”) does) I found the ur-traffic-flow-nerdery page, the traffic waves links page. I’ve only gotten to the first link on the page but it is solid gold, running through various discrete and continuous models of traffic flow and talking about future congestion projections for LA, a particular fascination for reasons I’m not going to get into just now.

Per rule 34, in addition to this apparently massive community of like-minded traffic flow nerds, I should also find highway congestion porn. I’ll keep you posted.

I kept meaning to ask if you had read this article. But of course you have.
